Where is the artwork located?

THE ARTWORK CAN BE VISITED ONLY ON CERTAIN DAYS- THE FORT WHERE IT IS KEPT IS A MILITARY AREA WITH LIMITED ACCESS.

The artwork represents the famous Fort and the Stele of the Madonna della Lettera in Messina, and it is precisely there that the piece is preserved. It was donated to the Navy on June 20,2023 and photos of the ceremony are available on Instagram and at the end of this article.

This artistic representation is a tribute to the history and spiritual significance of these places. Il Mollettaio skillfully and precisely used wooden clothespins to create a detailed replica of the Fort San Salvatore and the Stele of the Madonna della Lettera. Each clothespin has been carefully positioned with millimetric precision to depict the walls, tower and distinctive architectural features of the fort. The clothespins take on the role of the fort's stones and structures, creating a three-dimensional work that captures the viewer's attention. The Stele of the Madonna della Lettera, located near the fort, is an important place of worship and a symbol of Marian devotion for the city of Messina. This commemorative monument celebrates the apparition of the Virgin Mary to the city in 42 A.D. , and the artist has recreated both the details and the spiritual aura that surrounds it.

Through the artwork "Fort San Salvatore and Stele of the Madonna della Lettera", the Mollettaio celebrates the history, architecture, and spirituality of Messina.
